-> ARTICLE #1: Miva Merchant 4.0 and Upgrading =================
---> Relevant for SD, VD, CP Accounts ==========================
================================================================
Miva Corporation has released Miva Merchant 4.0. You can get
more info about it here:
http://www.miva.com/company/press/release.mv?Release_ID=51
This new release requires an upgrade to Miva Empresa, the
server-side engine that runs Miva code. As is our policy, we
allow a cooling-off period after new releases for potential bug
fixes and security issues to be addressed. Our wait has paid
off already as a security problem was discovered with the new
Miva Empresa, which we did not install yet.
Those of you interested in upgrading to Miva Merchant 4.0 should
be patient. Although Miva Corp will tell you that you have until
August 31, 2001 to upgrade, this is not true. You can upgrade
at any time. Upgrade licenses can be purchased through WSO.
We are still not convinced that upgrading to Miva Merchant 4.0
is in the best interest of WSO customers at this time. Once a
bug fix version is released we will probably begin offering
upgrades. Stay tuned for more information.
As a side note, we have upgraded our Miva Empresa server-side
engine to version 3.79, the most stable version currently
available.

-> ARTICLE #2: Telnet Turned Off, Use SSH Instead ==============
---> Relevant for SD, VD, CP Accounts ==========================
================================================================
A security exploit has been released that when used can allow
unauthorized access to a server using the Telnet protocol.
Because of this, WSO has shut down all Telnet access,
permanently.
Instead, we recommend you use SSH to connect instead. SSH works
and looks just like Telnet, except it is fully encrypted. There
are free SSH clients available. Here is a short list and more
can be found by doing a simple web search.
PuTTY: A Free Win32 Telnet/SSH Client:

SSH in pure Java (free for individual use):

If you want to pay, VanDyke has the best one:

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not use, or have never used Telnet, then
this issue is of absolutely no concern to you.
